Jeet Kune Do Instruction Tips

The JKD Inside Circle Step

The JKD Inside
Circle Step

In this follow-up article to “The JKD Outside Circle Step,” we will now examine the inside version of this circular footwork pattern.

This is a step-by-step guide to help both those already familiar with Jeet Kune Do footwork and those just beginning. If you’re just beginning, this article should get you started on firm “footing”. (OK, no more puns... at least for this article!)

Note: Stepping to the “inside” position means that you’ll be stepping with the rear foot first. If you’re in a right lead, your rear (left) foot steps to the left. Just reverse if in a left lead. If an opponent were to step to this side of your stance, they would be considered to be on the “inside” perimeter.

As mentioned in the first article, there are many different training aids you can use. (I’m using a cut garden hose in the photos - see Picture #1.) I’ll re-state the ideas here with a couple of additions:

• Chalk (simply draw it on the floor)
• Hula Hoop
• Jump Rope
• Rope or String
• Duct Tape
• Basketball Court (Free Throw Line)
• Focus Mitt (place it on the floor and circle around it)
• Barbell Weight (same idea as the focus mitt)
• Pole (could be a basketball pole, building support, or just a stick in the ground)
